After flying under our radar for a number of years due to no longer playing an active part in the Italian competition circuit, Matthias Schmidl now checks in with the second repeat of Warbeast at Nago, Italy. First climbed by Germany's Markus Bock and repeated in June 2013 by Silvio Reffo, this 8c+ follows an exposed, bouldery 15m line up the gigantic boulder located at the crag's first sector. After redpointing Warbeast, Schmidl also repeated Ghostrider and The great southern killing line, two 8c located on the same boulder.

"I started climbing at Nago and I hope Arco will experience a comeback and become a reference point for all top climbers, as it used to be" explained Schmidl. One thing is certain: Nago will no doubt be in the headlines soon as of the 8 routes above 8c, a handful still need to be freed.
