Martina Cufar first female ascent of Hotel Supramonte

Martina Cufar from Slovenia has made the first female ascent of Hotel Supramonte on the steep walls of Sardinia's Gole di Gorropu. The Slovenian sent the benchmark multi-pitch on September 28 together with Marko Lukic, and the two both redpointed the hardest pitches before alternating leads. Cufar is best known above all for her excellent competition results, but her redpoint ascents up to 8b+ rank as some of the hardest female ascents ever. She commented the ascent as follows: "I did all 10 pitches (7b+, 7c+, 8b, 8a+, 8b, 7c, 7a+, 7b+, 7b, 7b) without falling. I didn't imagine this even my wildest dreams. Marko fell once in the 5th pitch, but then did it in the second attempt. All together it took us about 10 hours to do the route. Including my very slow jummaring:-) Marko and I also discussed the grades. While we had had perfect conditions that day, we both agreed that the grades of the hardest pitches are about half a grade too high. But this doesn't reduce the value of the route. It's one of the nicest and the most complex route I've ever done. It's hard from the first move on and demands full concentration and a lot of endurance."
