Kristyna Ondra redpoints 8b+ at Moravian Karst
Is climbing an 8b+ newsworthy nowadays? Seeing what climbers are achieving nowadays, perhaps it isn't. But if this happens to be the hardest route ever climbed in a particular country, then perhaps it is. In particular if the climber's first name is Kristyna, and her surname is Ondra. Yes, the sister of Adam has now climbed her first 8b+, Kudlanka at her home crag Moravský Kras.
In truth these difficulties had been touched on in 1999 by the extremely talented Bára Stránská when she redpointed Ghettoblaster, Wolfgang Güllich's super route in Germany's Frankenjura. But more than a decade has passed since then without a similar performance. Evidently climbing runs in the family's DNA. And with a "trainer" of this calibre, perhaps the full 8c grade isn't an impossible dream.
