Katherine Choong repeats La Ramirole in Verdon Gorge
Swiss rock climber Katherine Choong has repeated La Ramirole, one of the hardest multi-pitch routes in the France's Verdon Gorge. The 150m line put up by local legend Bruno Clément checks in at 8a+, 8a, 8b, 8a, 6c+.
After working the route briefly - and after failing on the 8b pitch a few days earlier - she redpointed the line on Monday 18 April making a perfect, no fall ascent. Belayed by her climbing and life partner Jim Zimmermann, she explained "it wasn't a piece of cake. Each pitch was a long battle of endurance!"
The 30-year-old has sport climbed up to 9a and has a penchant for hard multi-pitches; last year she repeated big ones such as Une Jolie Fleur dans une Peau de Vache (300m, 8b) in the Verdon Gorge and 6.4 Sekunden (170m, 8b/+) at Engelberg in Switzerland, while in 2020 she repeated the stunning Ultime démence (160m, 8a+), one again in the Verdon.
