Janja Garnbret climbs her first 9a at Santa Linya in Spain
Janja Garnbret, the prodigious Slovenian climber who often seems to be in a league of her on in climbing competitions, is obviously also a phenomenal climber outdoors. During the few moments she climbs at the crags, the 18-year-old pro has managed to amass 8b onsight, 8c flash and 8c+ redpoint, and she has now taken her game one notch higher by sending her first 9a, Seleccio Natural at Spain’s Santa Linya.
It’s worth noting that in mid-September the winner of the Arco Rock Legends 2017 fell off the last hard move of the 9a+ Biographie at Céüse before having to dash home, while the day before Seleccio Natural she sent the 8c+ Open your Mind. Since these repeats have been reaped at the start of her holiday in Catalonia, and that she required just 5 attempts spread out over 2 days to send Seleccio Natural, it seems a safe bet that there’s much more in store soon.
