A relaxing climbing holiday in Turkey for James Pearson and Caroline Ciavaldini turned out to be more intense than expected, with Pearson coming up trumps on two of the countries hardest sport climbs, Deverse Royale and Reverrance.

Both routes are located at Geyikbayiri in the Antalya region of SW Turkey, an areaPearson had visited a few years ago. At the time he had attempted but failed to climb Deverse Royale and in the meantime the line has changed significantly due to holds breaking. Pearson worked out a new sequence and successfully made the first ascent after the broken crux; the route now weighs in at "solid 8c+".

A few days after sending this line, Pearson set off in search of a beautiful overhanging arête he'd seen a picture of and after three days of searching, bolting, and cleaning he couldn’t believe his luck: "the best line he had ever seen! A steep ships prow, 40m long, marble smooth on both sides, with a single continuous tufa running down the arête!" The fantastic new line checks in at 8c+ but as Pearson stated "the grade of this route is the least inspiring thing about it, and in my opinion should be at the bottom of the list of reasons to climb. I had dreamt of a moment like this for a long time. I have wandered the world, searching for the perfect line, a line that not only challenges but inspires. I finally found it, I finally climbed it, and to Turkey and the people here I give my Reverrance!
