After his astounding 8c on Mallorca at the end of March, Iker Pou now checks in from the Balearic islands with another important climb: the first ascent of Big Men at Fraguel. According to the 38-year-old Basque sports climber the climb could weigh in at 9a+ and, should this be confirmed, it would be his third 9a+ after Demencia Senil in 2010, and Nit de Bruixes freed in 2012, both located at Margalef.

Spectacular looking Big Men is in fact an old project, bolted 20 years ago by Carlos Raimundo. It’s worth remembering that Pou is one of the most talented all-round climbers of his generation: after making the coveted third ascent of Action Directe in the Frankenjura in 2000 he has continued to push the envelope at the crags, but also in the mountains where he has climbed some of the most demanding big walls of all, such as Orbayu on Naranjo de Bulnes.
