When you talk about talent, immense improvement and fun, you cannot help think about what twelve-year-old Eva Scroccaro is up to. As we reported previously, on 12 March this year the young climber from Northern Italy managed to send her first 8a, Giljotina at the Slovenian crag Misja Pec but now, exactly four months down the line, Eva has upped the ante and sent her first 8b, Masochismo at the steep Baratro cave just outside Trieste.
The great news comes directly from Eva's mother who stated "It was Sara Avoscan who, after having sent the route herself, recommened Masochismo to Eva. The "muleta" (a local dialect term which means young girl) repayed Sara for her trust and sent the route in 10 goes, spread out over three weeks, in her free time spent playing basketball with myself and a trip to the sea with her friends. School is finally over and we're all off to the sea... and to go climbing!"
What can we add? That we like this combination of climbing, basketball, school, sea and friends. It reminds us that we should never lose sight of the fun of it all, always and everywhere, regardless of how old we are or the grades we climb.
