Cinque Torri: the Trephor has collapsed
The Trephor, one of the Cinque Torri's (Dolomites) splendid minor towers, has collapsed.
![]() The news spread like wildfire on Friday afternoon, just before the Scoiattoli's K2 departure celebration. The Trephor, one of the Cinque Torri's splendid minor towers, has collapsed. 35m high, it was one of the most popular towers in the Dolomites. It is unclear when exactly the tower slid from its smooth base, but estimates pin-point the collapse to within the last three weeks. Last year I climbed the north facing, slighlty overhanging "Vertigo" with a Mountain Guide, Marcello Cominetti. He insited that the rope hung further from the base than usual, and we joked about this, saying that it was due to our general lack of fitness that the route had felt harder than expected... What now remains are two, north east facing immense blocks. The summit has exploded into a thousand pieces. by Roberto Casanova ![]()
