At the end of June Mauro Bubu Bole, together with Simone Sarti, made the first free ascent of Isolitudine, first climbed in 1998 by Icaro Demonte, Mirko Giorgi and Lorenzo Nadali at the Gole di Gorropu, Sardinia. The fourteen pitch Isolitudine was the first route to be climbed at the incredible Gole di Gorropu, home of the more famous Hotel Supramonte, and was originally graded A4 6b+. Bubu first repeated the aid route, then got to work at freeing the single pitches, in particular the seventh, which now goes free at F8b. The route is protected by a mix of natural pro, in-situ pegs, and bolt belays. Bubu commented: "All went according to plan. No hold broke, the weather was great, cool and windy... and with Simon we had a great out!" ![]() Gole di Gorropu (Sardinia) "Isolitudine" F.A.: Icaro Demonte, Mirko Giorgi, Lorenzo Nadali 27/08 - 03/09 1998 Length: 480 m - 14 pitches Original grade: A4, 6b+ Grade: 8b (pitches: 6c, 7a+, 6c, 6c, 7a, 7c+, 8b, 7c, 6c+, 6b, 6b, 6b+, 5c, 6a). |
