Argyro Papathanasiou climbs 8b+/8c at Athens
AU REVOIR by Argyro Papathanasiou
Au revoir is one of those imporant routes, it it a part of the modern history of rock climbing in Greece. It was bolted in 2000, and successively freed, by Kostas Roussos (Greece’s answer to Dani Andrada!) and since the it had been repeated only three times. It’s located in a quarry and the marble was used to build the Acropolis, in more recent times, during the 1980’s and 90’s, it transformed into one of Greece’s most important crags and this is where the country’s first grade VIII (7a) was put up. Apart from the sport climbs, there have been various important solos and also trad route. The climbing is technical and really unique: the marble gives a lot of positive vibes and I managed to ride them the other day when I sent Au revoir! I’m really happy! Although I wish it were closer to other cutting-edge female ascents, the important thing is to try your very best!
