Aντίο Chris Boukoros
Extremely sad news comes from Greece where Chris Boukoros, one of the country’s premier outdoor photographers, died in a car crash on the road from Volos to Larissa, circa 300km north of Athens.
The 41-year old freelance photographer was a prominent, much-loved figure in the close-knit Greek climbing community and his photographs had illustrated climbing magazines worldwide. While Kalymnos was understandably an important motif, Boukoros worked tirelessly at bringing Greece’s other climbing areas to the forefront, helping to reveal the countless other climbing areas hidden within the folds of the Hellenic Republic.
Boukoros discovered his love for photography while studying Textile Design & Colors at Biella in Italy and although rock climbing featured prominently in his works, he did not concentrate on this sport only and his interests lay in nature in general and, consequently, in all outdoor sports. His reportages included events as diverse as mountain biking, trail running, BASE Jumping, the Spartathlon ultramarathon, as well as also the difficult Greek election campaign earlier this year.
Despite the economic hardship the country is enduring Boukoros was forever enthusiastic about life and keen on sharing its ancient beauty and its huge outdoor potential with the rest of the world. Softly spoken, kind and extremely generous, he is survived by his wife and two daughters.
