La Sportiva: 90 years of history in Trento

La Sportiva, world leader in the production of footwear and technical clothing for mountaineering, celebrates its ninetieth birthday this year: ninety years have passed since the company was founded in 1928 by shoemaker Narciso Delladio di Tesero (Valle di Fiemme, Trentino), almost a century of history that has seen the small workshop called “La Calzoleria Sportiva”, constantly grow and evolve to become the global brand that it is today, world leader in the outdoor sector, especially in the niche markets of climbing, ski mountaineering, trail running and high altitude mountaineering through the production of technical footwear and clothing designed and developed in the mountains of Trentino. Four generations of the Delladio Family, represented today by CEO Lorenzo Delladio and his daughter Giulia, who have continued the family business leading it to today’s success: over three hundred employees, a growing turnover that will exceed one hundred million euro in 2018 and a new production plant of 15.000 cubic metres that will be inaugurated by then end of the year that will soon lead to the potential doubling of the production of shoes for climbing and high altitude mountaineering.

Time to celebrate then: on Wednesday 23rd May at the Muse of Trento during the annual international sales meeting with the participation of representatives from over 70 countries that today distribute the brand, La Sportiva will stage its 90th Anniversary Party, the event open to the entire population of Trentino and extended to mountain enthusiasts and it protagonists in general.

The mountain decends to the city and La Sportiva embraces Trento in an event that brings together history and legend with a series streetboulder events in the city centre in the afternoon and with mountain-themed aperitifs at the Plan and Pasi bars that will celebrate the company with special colours and tastes created especially for the event. From 5pm at the Muse Park there will be music with DJs from Climbing Radio, and drink & food sessions at the food trucks and of course climbing events with athletes from the La Sportiva team: a 20 metre boulder wall will be set up in the Albere park where it will be possible to try climbing with the whole family and to watch the exciting contest among the best climbers in the world. At 7pm it will be time for the important guests: on stage with Lorenzo Delladio we will find Simone Moro, Tamara Lunger and Adam Ondra who, alongside La Sportiva, have made mountaineering and world climbing history. At 9pm it will be the turn of the climbers performing in the climbing contest. Kilian Fischhuber, Anna Stöhr, Angela Eiter, Stefano Ghisolfi, Adam, Ondra, Jacopo Larcher, Mina Markovic, Tommy Caldwell and many others will be taking part in the event. Among the public: Manolo, Anton Krupicka and other legends of yesterday and today. And the grand finale? At 10 pm the final contest, Dj night-set by Johnny Mox and the “surprise event” on the walls of the Muse…

The main event will be broadcast live on Facebook on the official company channels and the hashtag to be used to give your own personal opinion of the event which will then be reposted on the company social wall will be #TrentoLaSportiva: a definition well suited to the city with the highest number of people in Italy who actively engage in sports . And that’s not all: La Sportiva’s embrace of the town will continue throughout the month of May with a mountain themed exhibits within the Muse (from 26th April to 26th May, events linked to the anniversary at the various Sportler stores in Trento and the street boulder Bloc & Wall event scheduled for Saturday, May 26 between the city centre and the Muse park.
