Perhaps it's because of the friction, perhaps its due to less time left after a hard day's work, or perhaps it's simply because it's great fun... the fact of the matter is that the night sessions, the nights out boudlering with friends, are gaining increasing popularity.

The news just in is about the first-ever organised Night Session scheduled for 26 April 2008 in Switzerland's Chironico. The bouldering meeting is open to all who are fuelled by an irrepressible desire to climb and... a headtorch!

Organised by local climber Luca di Biase, the Night Session kicks off at18.00 at the sports ground for registration and kit handout. The true jamming session begins at dusk and ends at dawn, with boulder judges, music, beer and prizes for all participants.

As di Biase explains: "I'm certain that this will become a new way of interpreting climbing. The Chironico town council has really appreciated the event and so it's up to us to show maximum respect to Mother Nature. Apart from this respect, don't forget to bring a crashpad and a headtorch. Gas lanterns are forbidden in the forest, for obvious reasons. We hope lots of you can make it!"
