On July 7th 2006 Ondra Benes from the Czech Republic made a swift repeat of Beat Kammerlander's legendary Silbergeier 8b+ in Rätikon, Switzerland. The 23 year old from Decin, near the famous Elbsandsteingebirge, spent just four days at the start of July working the pitches. After one rest day he successfully repeated the routes traight off, without ever falling.

Benes is equally at home on limestone (where he has previoulsy onsighted 8a and redpointed up to 8b+ Renegoide, Siruana, Spain) as on Czech sandstone; traditional ground-up first ascents with scarse protection (read run-out ring bolts and threads) have been the name of the game for decades but of late new bolted testpieces have made forray; in April 2005 Benes made the first ascent of THC 8b+ at Labak, currently one of the hardest sports route on Czech sandstone.
