Tomoa Narasaki flashes Gakido 8B+ at Chigobudau in Japan

On 20/12/2023 Japanese climber Tomoa Narasaki flashed 'Gakido', a boulder problem at Chigobudau previously rated 8C+. After using a slightly different sequence, Narasaki suggested 8B+. He then freed the sitstart project at 8C, calling it 'Ashuradō'.

Tomoa Narasaki off-season outdoors is as ruthless as he is in competitions. In late 2019 the 2016 & 2019 Bouldering World Champion flashed his first 8B+ boulder problem, Decided at Mizugaki, and now the 27-year-old has done it again to flash Gakido. Located at Chigobudau, this problem was put up by Shinichiro Nomura last year and originally graded 8C+; using a slightly different sequence Narasaki topped in less than 15 seconds and then suggested 8B+.

Evidently on fire, he then made short work of the sit start project to Gakido, requiring just 5 attempts to link the extra moves. Ashuradō is graded 8C and is Narasaki's hardest first ascent to date.
