Mélissa le Nevé climbing Wallstreet 8c, Frankenjura, Germany
Great news has trickled through from Germany's Frankenjura where 24-year-old French climber Mélissa le Nevé has made what is likely to be the first female ascent of Wallstreet, the world's first 8c climbed in April 1987 by Wolfgang Güllich.
This classic testpiece on the Krottenseer Turm boasts a bouldery crux section - 10 intense moves that would merit circa 8A boulder - that guards the entrance to the kingdom of supreme difficulties in the Frankenjura. This is the reason why the power route is repeated rarely, so much so that in its first 15 years it had only had 10 ascents. And now, 27 years since the first ascent carried out by 27-year-old Güllich, here's the first female ascent at last.
