In early February this year James Pearson made the first ascent of his long-standing trad project in Annot, France, calling it Bon Voyage and reckoning it felt like a considerable step up from all his previous trad climbs. As such, seeing the Brit's résumé one can safely describe it as one of the hardest trad climbs in the world.

Success couldn't be taken for granted though, as not only the sheer physical and psychological difficulties had to be mastered, they had to be balanced between injuries, fatherhood and the pressure he previously felt while deluding himself he had everything under control. Finding the flow proved key, as he explains in this great introspection.
