Annapurna: at least 24 die in Nepal avalanches and blizzards
A series of violent blizzards and avalanches have killed at least 24 people in Nepal, many of whom were trekking along the Annapurna circuit.

The violent cyclone Hudhud that hit the east coast of India last Sunday has caused chaos and deaths in the north of Nepal, above all in the Annapurna massif where during the last two days an unprecedented number of people have died or are currently missing. According to The Himalayan Times, at least 24 people were killed in the Mustang and Manang districts due to avalanches and snowstorms, including both the local population and foreign tourists and trekkers.
At present it is impossible to determine the precise death toll but it is known that on Tuesday afternoon a violent storm raged over Thorand La, an important pass in the Annapurna circuit, one of the most famous treks in the world. This trek is currently extremely popular as October is, historically, considered to be the best time of year to walk this beautiful circuit around the 10th highest mountain in the world.
In a separate incident, the Himalayan Times reports that an avalanche at Dhaulagiri Base Camp has resulted in five people missing, including two Slovakians.
