Fred Beckey is one of the true climbing legends of America, but not only. Born in 1923 in Germany, in 1925 Friedrich Wolfgang Beckey emigrated with his family to Seattle, USA and it is there that he began climbing. In 1939 he made his first first ascent in the ensuing 70 years Fred has never stopped climbing and, above all, establishing new routes and exploring the mountains. His life has been dedicated totally to the the mountains, so much so that he is widely considered one of the climbers and alpinists who has established more first ascents than all others. His love for climbing has taken him all across the globe and to practically all altitudes, but it is in the mountains of North America, in particular the Cascade Mountains, that he has left his mark with countless new routes. Now, aged 90m, he shows no signs of slowing down and for this reason there are two videos: the first is a video portrait, filmed by the New York Times as testament to Fred's legacy in the States, while the second documents his first trip to the Dolomites, the Cinque Torri, aged a beautiful 89.
