Greenland, new climb on the Impossible Wall

A small team comprised of Steve Bradshaw, Dave Glass, Clinton Marteningo and Andrew Porter have established a series of new rock climbs in Greenland.

Remember Greenland Big Walls, that exciting trip carried out in 2010 by Nicolas Favresse, Olivier Favresse, Sean Villanueva and Ben Ditto? At the time the four were skippered by Captain Bob Shepton who showed them the delights of the island's coastline, in particular two massive sea cliffs called the Red Wall and the ominous sounding The Impossible Wall on which the climbers established an impressive series of routes which even netted them the Piolet d'Or 2011.

Well, the very same Reverend is back again, this time though with a strong team of South Africans who after departing from Scotland at the start of June and crossing the 1700 mile-wide Atlantic in their sailing boat have now forged 3 new routes in the same area as Favresse & Co.

The climbers taking on this year's "mixed" challenge of sailing and climbing are Steve Bradshaw, Dave Glass, Clinton Marteningo and Andrew Porter and while Bradshaw and Marteningo warmed-up (so to speak) by opening Flight of the Dodo (7a, on-sight free), Glass and Porter made the first ascent of Don't be gull-able (6b, A1), both on the circa 450m high Red Wall in a 20-hour push.

The Red Wall lies directly opposite the 850m high Impossible Wall and it is here that the four then created Improbability Drive. 26-pitches, difficulties up to 7b and nine adventurous days on the wall are the crude details and Dodo's Delight - Bob Shepton's famous little sailing boat - has now hoisted its sails towards the next objective, Baffin Island!
