Targassonne is a minute hamlet lost in the French Pyrenees close to the ski resort Fort Romeu. Apart from the beautiful but worrying solar power research centers, the area also hosts an impressive number of boulders dotted along the green hills and hidden in the thick forests.

The boulders are comprised of a rough reddish yellow granite and are mouth-watering for all climbers. The style varies considerable from one boulder to the next, from powerful roofs to delicate slabs, via crimps and slopers.

Given the altitude (circa 1500m) it's possible to boulder even on the south facing problems, but should the sun beat down too hard it's also possible to seek shade among the boulders in the cool forest. Crashpads can be hired at the campsite and these can immediately be "tested" at the sector "Camping" while waiting for dinner to be served. Most other problems are located with a kilometer of the campsite, between the first and third hairpin bend.

As mentioned the rock is rough: unless your hands are made of stone, you won't be able to climb for more than 2 o 3 days on the trot. On rest days we recommend a visit to Fort Romeu where a vast array of different outdoor activities are on offer: paragliding, rafting, mountain biking and much more. A Petzl Rock Trip took place here for good reason and given its characteristics, Targasonne can be considered one of Europe's bouldering oases.
