On Friday 23 June the 22 year old Italian Jenny Lavarda sent her second 8b+, "Le dita del guerriero" at Covolo, Vicenza. The Italian champion, who in 2004 became the first Italian woman to come to terms with these difficulties by redpointing "Jurassic climb" 8b+ at Erto, had attempted the line briefly two years ago together with the Spaniard Patxi Usobiaga, who on that occasion managed to on-sight the stamania route. At the time the route seemed beyond her reach but, two years down the line and a host of difficulty, bouldering and ice climbing competitions under her belt, Jenny decided to give the route another go. After just three days and seven attempts she dispatched the route "completely unexpectedly" as she herself admits. Well done Jenny, we now look forward to the first female Italian 8c!
