Dave Graham has made the fourth ascent of Wolfang Güllich’s Action Direct 9a in Germany’s Frankenjura

| Dave Graham has climbed Action Directe. The young American has really pulled something off in the Frankenjura, where he climbed what is considered by many to be the hardest route in the world. Action Direct was the first route to touch upon the mythical 9a grade, even if its first ascentionist Wolfang Güllich, who climbed the line back in September 1991, was careful not to compromise himself on the grade. But Action Direct has withstood the test of time, so much so that it has only been repeated by the German Alexander Adler (1995) and the Spaniard Iker Pou (2000). The route is recognised as a milestone in sports climbing, and its few repeats spread over the 10 years since its first ascent demonstrate just this. Dave needed 7 days of trying spread out over a month due to poor weather conditions for his third repeat (fourth ascent overall). His ascent of this 12m 45° testpiece is the fastest to date, and it seems as if he needed no specific training to link the line of one and two-finger pockets to the top. Fantastic!
